| Frequently Asked Questions | ||||
| Q: How much does it cost? A: $4/mile + $2 pickup fee. See the Area Map. Q: How does it work? A: Call 734-9111 and a professional driver will arrive at your location on a motrized scooter, store it in your trunk or backseat (in a leakproof bag), and after checking for proof of insurance, drive you home in your own car (check out how it works for step-by-step descriptions and pictures). Q: I live outside of Bellingham. How far do you go? A: As far as you want us to go. We offer a price break after 10 miles - $3/mile instead of 4. Depending on how far, we may send our “4-wheeler” (car) after our driver because our scooters are not highway-safe, and this may be an additional $10 fee (for fuel to and from the location). Q: Should I tip the driver? A: Sure! Tip are not included in the ride fee, and our drivers work hard late hours in the rain and cold! Thanks! (They also work on commission, so request your favorite driver when you call! See “Meet the Rovers” link). Q: Are you hiring? A: Yes! Call the Human Resources Director at 734-9111 for more information. (See “Jobs” link). Q: Do you take credit or debit cards? A: Not yet, though we will in the near future. Cash or check only for now. Q: Do you take reservations? A: Absolutely! Call anytime and leave a message on voice mail or with our receptionist with your name, location, and desired time of pickup. Please call ahead of time to cancel reservations to avoid a $5 cancellation fee. Q: I have a small car. Can you still take me? A: Sure, as long as there is room for our scooter it weighs 40 lbs and is roughly the size of a fully-loaded golf bag when folded and stored. Q: I have friends with me. Can you take us all home? A: Sure! Our fee is per mile, so you may want to coordinate friends in a similar area of town. Our driver will update you of the fees at each stop. Q: Can you tell me now how much my ride will cost later? A: Call 734-9111 and our friendly dispatcher can estimate the rate for your ride using two addresses or areas of town. Q: What are the scooters like? A: They are Go-Peds (check out how it works) two stroke motorized, folding scooters that go a max of 30mph. They are street-legal and treated like bicycles on the road. Q: How do I know I can trust your drivers to drive my car? A: Our drivers are required to carry their 5-year clean driving abstract on their person and participate in a rigorous safety program focusing on defensive driving techniques. Q: Why do I need proof of current insurance? A: Washington state law requires that any car or truck driving on public roads be properly insured. As a third party driver, we must drive insured vehicles only. Q: What are Rover miles and how do they work? A: Rover Miles Card is a prepaid card that allows you a worry-free ride home. Just call ahead to purchase a card and place a certain number of miles on it (at $4/mile pickup fees waived!), then show it to your driver during a ride and forget about needing exact change, an ATM or your checkbook! Purchase one as a thoughtful and creative gift for your friend or family member. (Find coupons in our “Promo” link) Q: What is the $2 pickup fee for? A: Our $2 flat fee covers the price of fuel and taxes per ride. Q: How do you record mileage? A: We use a GPS unit to accurately record mileage from the customer’s pickup point to dropoff location. Your odometer is used as a backup. Q: I’m having a party. Can I rent your services? A: Absolutely. We have lots of options for your private party, non-profit benefit, or corporate event, wedding or prom party! Call us during daytime hours to discuss your options, which range from our catering service (reserving our entire fleet for the entire night, rates based on head count) to simply requesting our flyers or matches. See our Other Services Q: The bar/restaurant/establishment I work for/own/manage needs more matches/flyers/cards. How do I get more? A: Please contact a Sober Rovers representative at 734-9111 and we will deliver new materials to your location right away. Thanks for supporting your local designated drivers! Q: I like to support local businesses. Are you guys linked to a larger corporation, or any of the other related businesses I’ve heard about? A: Nope, Sober Rovers is independently owned and operated right here in Bellingham, the City of Subdued Excitement. We are proud to be a small business in Whatcom County and urge our customers, employees, and colleagues to support local businesses. Check out Sustainable Connections. Q: I’ve heard of other businesses like this from the news/my friend/the internet. Where else to they exist? A: This type of service is popular in Europe, especially London. In LA there is a service which employs male models with fake British accents for a members-only service. We’re a little more low-key here in Bellingham. Services also exist in Minneapolis, Louisville, San Diego and New York. Q: What if I cancel a ride? A: If you cancel within one hour of your reservation or pickup we ask for a $5 cancellation fee. Q: How long have you been in business? A: Since October 2005. Q: You haven’t exhausted my curiosity. Who can I talk to if I have more questions? A: Please call a Sober Rovers representative at 360-734-9111 or email us at info@soberrovers.com (See “Contact Us” link). |
